BANGKOK AFC 0 - 2 FUTERA UNITED

SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER 2022 - 16:00pm Thailand / 09:00am GMT - BPL Div 4

Futera United picked up another three points with a comfortable victory over a dogged Bangkok AFC, which saw them inch closer to the Bangkok Premier League Division 4 title. With a number of key players missing and perhaps an eye on Wednesday’s huge Chang FA Cup game, there was the potential of an upset on the cards but Futera put in a strong performance to maintain their unbeaten run.

Futera dominated possession in the opening stages of the first half but failed to create any real opportunities against a resolute Bangkok defence. A tame shot by Jew was easily saved before in the 20th minute some exquisite play from our skipper saw him flight a beautiful ball into the box for Mai to expertly control and fire inches over. The same player would come closer when his shot come cross cannoned of the cross-bar with the Bangkok keeper well beaten. With half time approaching it appeared Futera’s dominance would end in frustration until in time added on Pang won a corner. Nu’s low in-swinging cross was bundled in by Bank to give the table toppers the lead they deserved.

The second half began with Futera once again pushing the home side back into their own half. A fantastic mazy run by Bank saw him fire in a cross that the diving Mai connected with but his header sailed wide of the far post. In the 60th minute John’s perfectly weighted through ball played in Diw but with only the keeper to beat he totally miscued and shot well wide. Gael on the right wing was having a great game and causing the Bangkok defence numerous problems and after leaving the left back in his wake he crossed but Bank’s header was blocked and from the resulting follow up Pang’s fierce strike was well saved by the keeper.

With Futera pressing forward looking to extend their lead, they were caught by a swift counter attack which saw the Bangkok right winger fire in a low cross which eluded both Film and John but the home team’s striker miscued with the goal at his mercy before from the follow up they rattled the bar. This scare prompted Futera to step up a gear and after good work from the impressive Gael, Save sealed victory with a well taken shot that nestled into the bottom left hand corner. Futera went close in the final minutes but the final score finished Bangkok AFC 0-2 Futera United.

This victory, coupled with JB Academy’s loss, means that Futera United are within touching distance of their first piece of silverware. Not the finest performance by any means but a crucial three points with a somewhat patched up team with a few notable absentees. Over the past few weeks Method has put in some great performances and he continued this form with a great display against Bangkok, dominant in the air and strong in the tackle. Mai was a bag of tricks and unlucky not to score while Gael on the right wing was in fine form with his surging runs. With two games remaining the invincible season is still very much on. A huge week for Futera United coming up when they make the arduous trip to North East Thailand to take on Sisaket United in the Chang FA Cup second round, an incredible feat for this young club.
