Futera United triumphed in an enthralling encounter, between the two undefeated teams in the Bangkok Premier League Div 4, to extend their lead at the top of the table. Sunday's postponement of this fixture had only heightened the anticipation in what had been billed as a “title decider”.
The game kicked off with Futera missing three key players for this crucial fixture, but still looked like a very strong team. JB began brightly with some neat interplay but gradually Futera’ quality began to take over and the home side were pushed back deep into their own half. Despite dominating possession it was JB who created the first meaningful chance when sloppy play from Basil allowed the JB attacker to surge forward and drive in a low cross that was luckily missed by everyone. JB’s game plan was clear, they would sit deep and concede possession to Futera and try to hit them on the break with swift counter attacks.
In the 30th minute a deft through ball from Jew found Gael inside the box, his shot beat the on rushing keeper but went narrowly wide. Futera continued to press but were thwarted by the stubborn JB defence, a fierce 25 yard strike from Nu went inches over before the JB keeper saved bravely at the feet of Bank in the 40th minute. The half time whistle blew, on a somewhat frustrating half for Futera, with the scores level.
The introduction of Wut and Art for the second half galvanised Futera, and they began passing the ball with more purpose. The experienced Wut, was dictating the tempo of play and Futera would finally get the goal their dominance deserved. In the 48th minute the ball was moved out to Art on the left flank and he glided past two defenders firing in a low cross that evaded both keeper and centre back and Oat gleefully smashed home at the far post. With their tails up Futera were in total control and played some great football with Art and Oat a constant threat on the flanks. In the 55th minute the game boiled over with players and coaches from both sides involved in a series of pushing and shoving. This incident seemed to have an adverse effect on Futera and JB took control for a five minute spell, finally not playing so deep and committing men forward.
Futera wrestled back control of the game and in the 72nd minute a wicked inswinging corner from Nu ,was spilled by the impressive JB Keeper, and skipper Jew smashed the loose ball into the roof of the net to make the score 0-2. Delightful build up play involving Wut and Ter saw the ball worked out to Art on the left wing and his cross was met on the volley by Save, only to miss the far corner by inches for surely what would have been a goal of the season contender. Futera saw out the closing minutes in style, keeping hold of the ball with ease and the final whistle blew on a fine 0-2 victory for table topping Futera.
Another dominant performance from Futera who maintain their position at the top of the table and remain undefeated in the BPL this season. A thoroughly deserved victory, where we had to be patient but in the end our quality was too much for JB. A fantastic second half performance from Wut, who bossed the game, and showed what a class player he really is. The front three of Art, Ter and Oat put in solid performances and once again Don and M were exceptional. As the season draws to an end Futera United are on the cusp of an incredible debut season which could see them crowned league and cup winners.
