Futera United 1-4 BFB Pattaya City

Futera United fell to a 4–1 FA Cup defeat against BFB Pattaya City, but the football was overshadowed by a serious leg injury to the away side’s goalkeeper. Everyone at Futera United sends him their best wishes and hopes for a full recovery.
An experimental United squad, featuring two 17-year-old debutants, began brightly and created a succession of chances. Song came closest when he struck the post, but the black and gold were unable to turn their early dominance into a lead.
Pattaya scored against the run of play, their striker forcing his way between United’s centre-backs before slotting beyond Dell to give the hosts the advantage.
Half-time substitute James Oise brought Futera level with a superb solo goal. Pattaya then regained the lead in controversial circumstances, with the ball appearing to strike a midfielder’s outstretched hand during the build-up. The goal stood, leaving United chasing the game once more.
At 2–1, Futera regained control and pushed for an equaliser. A long ball sent Song through towards goal, with the Pattaya goalkeeper coming out to challenge United’s number 19. The ball ricocheted to Oise, who finished superbly, but the referee’s whistle was followed by confusion before the seriousness of the goalkeeper’s injury became apparent. Oise’s effort did not count, and attention turned to the injured player.
When play eventually resumed with a dropped ball, Pattaya took control. A well-taken third goal extended their advantage before a handball by BasBU gave the hosts a penalty, which they converted to complete the scoring.
For Futera, there will be lessons to take from missed opportunities and moments at the back, alongside valuable experience for the two young debutants. Those reflections are secondary, however, to the welfare of the Pattaya goalkeeper. Our thoughts are with him, his family and everyone at BFB Pattaya City, and we wish him strength throughout his recovery.
