28th May 2023 - BPL Div 2
Futera United returned to Bangkok Premier League action with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sirisak Sport Club, making it five wins out of five in what has been a highly impressive start for the newly promoted side.
With one eye on the huge TA match next week, Coach Breeze decided to rest Bank and Kao and leave Jew on the bench. However, it was still a strong side that kicked off on another sultry evening at the Dome. Futera raced into a lead inside five minutes when an excellent raking ball from the outstanding Save was fed into the path of Babu, whose inch-perfect cross was gleefully smashed into the roof of the net at the far post by Aek. This marked his third goal in what has been an impressive start to the season for the young winger. Moments later, another cross from Babu was met by Gael, but his neat shot from close range was well saved by the Sirisak keeper. Unfortunately, Babu, after a bright start, was unable to play any further part and left the field with what looked like a hamstring injury, being replaced by Nu.
Sirisak regrouped after a torrid opening ten minutes, and their high press put Futera under intense pressure. However, it was still the home side that looked like adding to their lead. Gael inexplicably volleyed wide with the goal at his mercy, and Bew, clean through, could only shoot straight at the keeper. The first half finished with Futera holding a narrow 1-0 lead.
Futera came out strong at the start of the second half, and Phu should have done better when played clean through, only for his shot to be well saved by the impressive Sirisak keeper, who was having an outstanding game. Nu went close with a fierce free kick before Futera finally got the second goal their play deserved. The industrious Save broke down the right flank and managed to dig out a cross to the far post, where Gael headed home to make the score 2-0. Futera were now in total control and able to break the Sirisak press with ease, with the midfield trio of Bew, Wu, and Jew playing some scintillating football. Katang added a third, sealing a well-deserved 3-0 victory for Futera, as he raced onto Jew's through ball and finished with a sublime lob.
It was another outstanding performance from Futera's young team, who remain undefeated this season and have adapted to life in Division 2 with ease. Save has been outstanding and plays with a maturity belying his young age, while Bew and Mark are class acts. It will be another huge week in the history of Futera when they take on Bangkok City FC in the Thailand Amateur League competition, which will undoubtedly be a tough test.
